Tough Travels – Turncoats

Tough Traveling jpegEach Thursday, our copy of ‘The Tough Guide to Fantasyland’ in hand, we shall tour the mystical countryside looking for adventure and fun (and tropes) from all over fantasy.

This weeks topic is TURNCOATS

TURNCOATS are people who change to the side of the DARK LORD in mid-tour.

First off, sorry for that delay.  Our Cable company had a system wide outage that didn’t get fixed until this afternoon.  But we are back!

Wow. Tough week. The inevitable betrayal seems like such a common theme I thought for sure that this would be easier than it was. And for spoilers sake I found I had to limit a couple of others. Oh well here is my short and sweet list for the week.

LittlefingerA Game of Thrones by George RR Martin – Truth be told I could have just made a large list of turncoats from A Song of Ice and Fire alone. But I picked Littlefinger because he flat out told Ned that he couldn’t be trusted. HE TOLD HIM DAMN IT.

Lando CalrissianStar Wars – Does this one count? I mean, Vader was already there and is not a man to be fucked with. Would you have warned Han away knowing that Vader knew he was coming? Really shows how nasty the man in black was; the second that ship was down he could have had his rebels but instead let them get a little comfortable first.

HorusWarhammer 40k – Favored son of the Emperor, Leader of the Great Crusade, and eventually traitor to all of mankind. His fall to chaos broke the Empire and forever beset mankind to the forces of chaos.

Plus his heresy put the Emperor on his immortal throne where he now requires the sacrifice of thousands of phykers. Ouch.

That is all I got. Shorter list than normal but life has thrown a few wrenches at me this week.

Join us next week as we look at TYRANTS

TYRANTS are like bad KINGS, only truly atrocious…Tourists can tell when a country is ruled by a tyrant because the road to the main city will be lined with impaled corpses.

As always thanks for joining, feel free to join along at any time, and please check out my fellow travelers!
